Multnomah Falls

📍 Multnomah Falls, Oregon

Here’s a throwback Thursday for you! These pictures are from a road trip I took in college circa 2011 (That duck sweater was the coolest!).

When I was a kid, I hiked to the top of Multnomah Falls in a pair of orange flip flops. For years that was the most interesting thing about the falls to me and the first thing I would think of when I heard it mentioned. But I vaguely remembered my mom telling me the story of seeing the face of a woman in the falls, so I did some searching….

Hundreds of people stop at Multnomah Falls every year to admire Oregon’s most famous waterfall. But according to legend, the falls exist because a young woman gave her life to save her village from a deadly plague. Some visitors still claim to see her face in the mist.

On foggy evenings, when the roar of the water fills the gorge and the cliffs vanish into darkness, you just might be able to make out her face.
